Gurnee, Ill. — May 29, 2015 — On May 29, 1976 Great America engineers, designers and architects saw years of planning come to remarkable fruition. Initially built with a $50 million investment, thousands of workers and enumerable details, this 100-acre theme park was nestled between Chicago and Milwaukee touting themed areas representing the country’s bicentennial with classic Americana-themed territories.
