Six Flags Great America Marks Entertainment Milestone

Celebrate 40 Seasons of Thrills

Gurnee, Ill. — May 29, 2015 — On May 29, 1976 Great America engineers, designers and architects saw years of planning come to remarkable fruition. Initially built with a $50 million investment, thousands of workers and enumerable details, this 100-acre theme park was nestled between Chicago and Milwaukee touting themed areas representing the country’s bicentennial with classic Americana-themed territories.

Today, Six Flags Great America stands as one of the largest theme parks in the country with over 80 rides, shows and attractions plus a 20-acre water park, Hurricane Harbor. Over 100 million guests have walked through the Great America turnstiles to embark on incredible adventures and first-time rides with friends and family.

“Six Flags Great America is an important part of this area’s heritage. Many of our guests have grown up with this park and we’re a part of their family,” said park president, Hank Salemi. “We have a big year planned with a new children’s area, double rides, new shows and fireworks that we would encourage those who haven’t visited in a while to come back and rekindle their favorite Great America memories.”

40th season celebration includes:
•    Goliath – world’s tallest, steepest and fastest wooden roller coaster certified by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS
•    Hometown Park – a new children’s area for junior thrill-seekers
