The Ultimate Definition of Airtime
Have a seat, but don’t get too used to having your feet on the ground. The 32 chairs hanging in a peaceful circle around the massively tall 23-story tower at the center of SkyScreamer are about to liftoff. Don’t be fooled by the colorful, star-shaped gondola that is doing all the heavy lifting. This gondola is merciless, and you’re about to fly boldly through the air with the trees beneath your feet!
You’re gently picked up and start to slowly swirl and revolve around the center. Up you go, cranked 236 feet in the sky as the seemingly skinny chains holding up your seat begin to spin. You’ll start to spin faster as you lift higher, so by the time you get to the top, you will be careening around the center base at 43 miles per hour.
You’re sitting in a swing chair, 23 stories up, getting hurled around in a 98-foot wide circle—talk about airtime. All you’re going to feel is air, with your feet dangling in the sky and hair blowing in the wind. The world far below you is making more revolutions per second than you can count.
You’ll see not only the whole park, but miles in every direction. Too bad you’ll be spinning around too fast to see more than a blur.
Deep below the land SkyScreamer was built on, are the remains of a small town a witch cursed.
She raised her arm and pointed. Shoelaces became snakes. Hair caught fire. Spiders swarmed from pockets. Her flesh began to melt in the growing flames, and her laugh, an insane cackle, rose above the crowd and hovered throughout the night.
It was agreed by all that she was evil and must die. They dragged her to this spot, over 150 years ago, and tied her to a post. Screeching and calling people by name, she seemed not to care. As if she knew she couldn’t die. As if she knew she’d come back laughing.
The community lived in fear. She had brought an infestation of grasshoppers, the size of birds, that destroyed crops, devoured livestock, and slowly reduced helpless babies in their cribs to bone and gristle. Her love potions turned young girls’ tongues green with rot, and she had perfected the use of maggots in many spells.
She cursed them all that October night, as the flames rose higher. Next time, she will show no mercy. The site of her death, where people once laughed and still do, will forever be a place of terror. Especially, in the bewitching season.
